The Princess and the Frog + Tickles My Pickle | screencap meme requested by anon (I chose Tiana’s father)

Tiana’s father. Oh yes let me talk about Tiana’s father, James. The man was an idealist, a dreamer. Probably spend half in life with his head in the books or scribbling up ideas in his notebook. He probably met Eudora by chance at a cafe they both visited. She probably wondered so much about the boy who sat in the back with his head in his books all the time. She probably one day decided to walk over and talk to him. They probably fell in love almost instantly. He talked to her about his dreams,she listened, not like the others though, she actually listened and believed (for a minute or two) but she did. She listened go on about opening a restaurant because he loved to cook, because he enjoyed to make people happy, to hear all the crazy lives of people from all walks of life, because he enjoyed stories, because he thought life as a big great event.

They got married and he begin to envisioned a new dream, a dream with her of course. But it was only dream, and bills were a reality and poverty knocked on the door. And god, do people write about white men who get crushed by life and ripped their dreams apart. But what happens to black men who dream with life? They don’t get their dreams ripped apart, their hearts are ripped out and the wound is left open and nothing can heal it.

That’s what happened to James and he would of died had he not have love. Eudora’s love and then Tiana’s love. Tiana’s love kept him alive and gave him hope. Life can be unkind to him but it would not be to her. That was his promise to her. That she could dream a new better dream and it would come true. He passed that to his daughter because James died as he had been born,a hopeless idealist and yes, a dreamer.

Tiana and her father are one of my favorite  parts about this movie, probably because James reminds me so much of my own daddy. Luckily I’ve still got my dad and he still encourages me as much as he can.

But seriously, James is probably everything every potential/future father should strive to be.
