I’m not a  gamer, but I’ve always liked the imagery of Assassin’s Creed, and was curious to at least try out the novels based on the games.

Guess I’ll have to look for some other non-douchey franchise to spend money on.

Might I suggest Pillars of Eternity? It’s a larval IP right now and an old-school Balder’s Gate type RPG, but the writers have a really strong history with storytelling. And the female companions that have been unveiled are looking awesome. For example, she’s the party cleric:
