Clarification on a couple things:

Christianity in general: we are a religion of many viewpoints. There was a freaking social revolution that led to the formation of the Protestant Church because some guy thought the Catholics had gotten too greedy and had gone the ‘you can buy your way into heaven’ route (spoiler alert: they had). The viewpoints of one denomination do not speak for us all

LGBT:

  • Some denominations completely accept and welcome LGBT people
  • others don’t
  • there’s a lot of denominations that don’t believe homosexuality is a sin at all (Episcopalians, Lutherans, etc)
  • Denominations to stay away from if you’re LGBT: Baptists (particularly Southern Baptists), Jehovah’s Witnesses, Pentacostals, Roman Catholics (though they’re complicated and a mess and god it would take me a full day to sort out all their crap regarding homosexuality and its ‘sinfulness’ or lack thereof), Seventh-Day Adventists, and Assembly of God

Abortion:

  • Again, varies by denomination
  • Catholics are HUGE anti-abortion people, but they’re super consistent about all this because they are just as ardently anti-death penalty as they are anti-abortion (generally), and their big mission is to feed the poor and care for the needy and all that stuff. So in this, Catholics (in general) are the ultimate pro-lifers: actually campaigning to protect life in all forms. So even if I don’t agree with them, I really respect them in that respect cause I mean you gotta give them some credit for that
  • A lot of denominations are fine with abortion (I mean, as fine as you can get with the topic of abortion), though some will make you sit through a bit of counseling to decide if abortion is really what you want/really the best option for you
  • it’s really not cause they hate women guys. It’s really not (I mean, I suppose a small small minority might, but that’s not why they do it)

SCIENCE:

  • MOST OF US BELIEVE IN SOME DEGREE OF THEISTIC EVOLUTION GUYS
  • YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE IN THE LEGIT CREATIONISM SHIT ANYMORE
  • NOT MANY
  • Quick definition time: Theistic evolution is the view that holds that religious teachings about God are compatible with modern scientific understanding about biological evolution. Theistic evolution is not a scientific theory, but a range of views about how the science of evolution relates to religious beliefs
  • basically, “evolution/science is real, but was originally set in motion by God”
  • that’s it. that’s the concept. not hard to understand, right????

Christianity as “the way”:

  • man I dunno what to tell you except that some believe it’s the only way, and some (like myself) are more ‘C.S. Lewis’ style about all this:
‘Alas Lord, I am no son of thine but the servant of Tash.’ He answered, ‘Child, all the service thou hast done to Tash, I account as service done to me.’ Then by reasons of my great desire for wisdom and understanding, I overcame my fear and questioned the Glorious One and said, ‘Lord, is it then true, as the Ape said, that thou and Tash are one?’
The Lion growled so that the earth shook (but his wrath was not against me) and said, ‘It is false. Not because he and I are one, but because we are opposites. I take to me the services which thou hast done to him. For I and he are of such different kinds that no service which is vile can be done to me, and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oath’s sake, it is by me that he has truly sworn, though he know it not, and it is I who reward him. And if any man do a cruelty in my name, then, though he says the name Aslan, it is Tash whom he serves and by Tash his deed is accepted.”…..
…”Lord, though knowest how much I understand.’ But I said also (for the truth constrained me), ‘Yet I have been seeking Tash all my days.’ ‘Beloved,’ said the Glorious One, ‘unless thy desire had been for me thou wouldst not have sought so long and so truly. For all find what they truly seek.’”
  • That’s pretty much all I have to say on the subject. Some believe Christianity is the only way while others believe if you lead a good life and try to help people it doesn’t matter who your god is because the Real God (whichever one that may be, Christian or otherwise) would hopefully be kind and loving enough to understand that we were seeking him/her regardless of the path we take to them or the name we seek them thruogh

Love:

  • Jesus literally said that the most important commandments were “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” THERE ARE NO COMMANDMENTS GREATER THAN THESE, he said.
  • Literally our job as Christians is to love and bring God’s love into the world
  • anyone who says different is misinformed/lying/hasn’t read the Bible/pushing an agenda/etc

Psst…the woman was Jael and she drove a stake through Sisera’s head. It’s in Judges. There’s lots of violence in Judges. There’s also Deborah, who is also featured in Judges. And Ruth and Naomi. Now there’s a story. Also you might want to look up Queen Esther. She’s got her own book. She’s pretty badass. I think you’ll like her.

Yeah, so that’s pretty much all I have to say on the topic.
