impossiblearchitecture:

Flesh-like architecture.

I think this stylistic vocabulary in architecture needs to be more than just formal explorations through computer programming gymnastics, it needs to consider what it is to be ‘flesh-like’ – the healing or regenerative capabilities, elasticity and compression, density and functionality. Should a building breathe through its skin, how should it breathe? or secretion of fluids and gas.

Now this may seem grotesque and almost irrelevant to architecture but is the body not born from the architecture it inhabits? From the translucency of human skin to the functional sweat glands from beneath the skin, which allows the body to cool, there is much architecture can draw from the human anatomy, especially in this futuristic-deconstructivist style of architecture

Why is the ceiling in a room generally static and flat? In a hospital scenario, it could be designed so that it aids a person to fall asleep, or create a restful ambiance. Superfluous or overlooked?

Onsen (温泉)

Is a term for hot springs in the Japanese language. As a volcanically active country, Japan has thousands of onsen scattered along its length and breadth. Onsen come in many types and shapes, including outdoor (露天風呂 or 野天風呂, roten-buro or noten-buro?) and indoor baths.

Onsen water is believed to have healing powers derived from its mineral content. A particular onsen may feature several different baths, each with water with a different mineral composition. The outdoor bath tubs are most often made from Japanese cypress, marble or granite, while indoor tubs may be made with tile, acrylic glass or stainless steel. Different onsen also boast about their different waters or mineral compositions, plus what healing properties these may contain.
